Privacy notice

This notice explains what happens to your details if you sign up for UK Be Ready emails, and what this website stores in your browser. In short: we only collect what you give us, only to send the emails you asked for, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any email we send. For privacy questions or requests, contact us by replying to any email we send you, or write to us at our registered office: Moxon House, Moxon Street, Marylebone, London W1U 4EY.
What we collect
Only if you use one of our sign-up forms:
- Your email address (required).
- Your first name, if you choose to give it.
- Your consent: that you ticked the box, and when.
- Where you signed up: the page and the form (for example the pop-up or the cash planner), so we know which parts of the site are useful.
The cash planner and other tools work entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is stored or sent to us.
Why we use it
To send you the UK Be Ready email newsletter: breaking news about disruption in the UK, blackout and preparedness tips, new tools, and discounts and offers from UK Be Ready. We don't sell your details or share them with other companies for their own marketing.
Our lawful basis
Your consent (UK GDPR Article 6(1)(a)). Because these are marketing emails, we also follow the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations (PECR), which require your consent before we send them. The consent box is never pre-ticked, and you can withdraw consent at any time by unsubscribing.
Where it is stored and who processes it
Sign-ups are sent securely (HTTPS) to our sign-up service, which stores your details so we can send the newsletter. We use these service providers (processors), who may only use your data on our instructions:
- Sign-up service: hosted by Hetzner in Germany. The UK recognises the EU as providing adequate protection for personal data (UK adequacy regulations).
- Website hosting: Vercel, which serves this website through its global network and keeps standard access logs (such as IP address and pages requested) for security. Vercel Inc. is based in the US; transfers are covered by the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.
- Email delivery: our email delivery services (Mailing Pigeon, sending through Resend) send the newsletter to you.
We do not sell your data.
How long we keep it
We keep your details while you are subscribed. When you unsubscribe, we stop emailing you and delete your details, except for a minimal record of your email address on a suppression list so we never email you again by mistake. We may also remove subscribers who haven't opened any email for a long period.
Your rights
- Unsubscribe and withdraw consent at any time, using the link in every email.
- Access: ask for a copy of the details we hold about you.
- Correction: ask us to fix anything that's wrong.
- Erasure: ask us to delete your details.
- Complain: you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK data protection regulator, at ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint or on 0303 123 1113. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.
Cookies and browser storage
This website doesn't use tracking or advertising cookies, and doesn't run analytics scripts. Our sign-up pop-up stores a few small settings in your browser (not cookies, and never sent to us) so it doesn't keep appearing:
| Name | Where | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
ukbr_signup_shown | Session storage | Stops the pop-up appearing more than once per visit | Until you close the browser tab |
ukbr_signup_dismissed_at | Local storage | Remembers that you closed the pop-up, so it stays away for 14 days | Until you clear it (ignored after 14 days) |
ukbr_signup_subscribed | Local storage | Remembers that you signed up, so you don't see the pop-up again | Until you clear it |
You can clear these at any time in your browser settings. The pop-up never appears on this page.
Changes to this notice
If we change how we use your details, we'll update this page and the date below, and tell subscribers about any significant change by email.
